ACE Nursery School is a parent
co-operative. All ACE parents make a practical contribution to the running
of the nursery school – whether shopping, mending equipment, helping
in the nursery itself, or organising fundraising events. Each term this
amounts to about five hours’ work. Parents who are unable to commit
this time do have the option of paying a co-op contribution instead.
One of the first points of contact for parents to meet fellow parents
is the New Parents' Meeting, which takes place at the start of the school
year in September. As well as a social occasion, this is a good opportunity
to understand more about the life of the school.
The Parents’ Committee
The Parents’ Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting in November.
The committee is responsible for the administration of the school, including
the appointment of staff, maintenance of the building, financial control
and the running of the co-operative. Committee members are responsible
for coordinating the work areas; this leaves the teaching staff free to
concentrate on the children.
Social and Fundraising Events
There are regular events during the year which allow ACE parents and children
to get together informally. As well as being fun and friendly, they raise
money for the school.
The events normally include a Sparkler Party in November, a Christmas
Fair, a Street Collection in the Spring, an Easter Tea party and finally
a Summer Picnic. On top of these events, there are occasional supper parties
and wine-tasting evenings for parents.
