Parental Involvement
ACE is a parent co-operative. All ACE parents make a practical contribution – whether shopping, mending equipment, helping in the nursery itself, or organising fund raising events. At the Nursery School this amounts to five hours’ work per term, and at the Day Nursery the commitment is 1 hour per month. Parents who are unable to commit this time do have the option of paying a co-op contribution instead.
At the Nursery School, one of the first opportunities for parents to meet each other is the new parents' evening which takes place during the summer term before the children join us. This is a good opportunity to meet your child’s designated key person, to collect the welcome pack and to understand more about the school.
The Parents’ Committee
The Parents’ Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting in November. The committee is responsible for the administration of the school, including the appointment of staff, maintenance of the building, financial control and the running of the co-operative. Committee members are responsible for coordinating the work areas; this leaves the teaching staff free to concentrate on the children.
Social and Fundraising Events
There are regular events during the year which allow ACE parents and children to get together informally. As well as being fun and friendly, they raise money for the school.
The events normally include a Pumpkin Party, a Winter Fayre, an International Breakfast, a Spring Fayre and finally a Summer Picnic. On top of these events, there are occasional social evenings for parents and staff.
